Glyde - Discovery
Platform for Paragliders

June 2019

June 2019

Project Description

During the short course at Ravensbourne I have been involved in building a mobile app for paragliding enthusiasts that allows them to book organized trips within the UK for the best value. It also features weather updates that give users suggestions when they should book their trip. Tips and educational sections help prepare for a trip. As part of a social platform, points can be earned depending on the users experience level.

Problem Statement

Paragliding has become more and more popular all across the world in recent years, especially in the UK people have shown interest in the growing sport. However, with volatile weather conditions, high travel costs and insufficient training for novices at affordable price points, finding locations and organizing trips is a frustrating process. Currently you are required to browse the internet for scattered information and contact each provider one by one in order to plan a trip.

Opportunity

There is an opportunity to create a new platform for paragliding beginners as well as enthusiasts by providing them with nearby travel locations, weather insights, affordable packages (to reduce overall costs of the trip), basic training and a social community profile. The platform would speak to active as well as adventurous people and address all their previous problems regarding paragliding  within one app.

User Flow & Persona

Low Fidelity Prototype

By interviewing potential users I was able to come up with a suitable user persona & began to define which features I would implement in this little amount of time.

After establishing the information architecture,
I experimented with sticky notes to construct a realistic user flow. Next I sketched some low fidelity wireframes on paper mockups in order to create a prototype with Marvel App.

Thereafter I gave my early prototype to test participants to complete specific tasks & meanwhile they were asked to explain their thought process. This allowed me to find big issues that I could fix in the second iteration round.

Early Design Concepts

Final Outcome

After I completed the 5 day short course I set out to do another final iteration of the prototype with some of the feedback I had received. Consequently I started improving the visual appearance of the app and integrated some of the features that I wanted to implement initially. The final iteration took 4 days additional days.

The welcome screen or home page presents the user with information about their account, upcoming trips, paragliding tips and an educational section

The discover page is tailored to the users preferences and delivers a clear overview of the available offers.

The apps main focus is to be simple. It should give it’s users a broad overview of the current problems with we face and how we are trying to solve the long persisting issues.

The details page shows in depth information about a trip with an overview of key info and an image gallery at the top.

After the user selects to book a location they are presented with a calendar view that suggests the most suitable weeks of each month based on weather insights.

The user can choose to save their booking at any time during the process which is shortlisted in the profile section.
